13 November 2009

What a year it’s been and just how quickly has it gone!!!  Our busy Wedding and Party season has passed by and all thoughts now are focused on the Christmas and New year festivities, which as I write are just around the corner. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our clients, corporate and private, for using our services in what has been a tough year for everyone. When finances are limited, value for money is even more important and we at soundfunctiondjs.com are proud to deliver professional, quality service for every booking – something which we feel gives us the edge over many of our competitors. Looking ahead to next year we plan to continue to provide the unrivalled nationwide Disco service we’re renowned for and to develop and expand our range of services to offer more choice to all our potential and existing customers. Check out our new “Effective Extras…” page for some great add ons to make any party rock. Read on here for details on what’s to come in 2010…

Karaoke

We’re often asked to recommend Karaoke providers to clients so we’ve decided to cut out the middle man and provide the service ourselves. From Spring 2010 we will be offering three Karaoke packages all featuring a huge and regularly updated music catalogue. With competitive pricing and the option to include Karaoke in our Wedding packages, we are confident  that our professional Karaoke will prove to be very popular. Karaoke packages and pricing available from Spring 2010.

Effective extras

For all our entertainment packages we are well known for providing excellent sound and lighting equipment as standard. Sometimes however, some all important extra touches can set your party or function above the rest. From special effects to glowsticks and confetti cannons – give your party the edge!!! New web page “Effective Extras…” online now – see our home page.

Florence and the Machine – You got the love (Steve Pitron & Max Sanna Remix)
Not many people will be aware of the Christian influenced tune from 1986 by The Source featuring Candi Staton. Most people will be aware of the remix by DJ Eren in ‘91 which stormed up the charts with it’s memorable riff and vocals. Remixed in 1997 by Now Voyager, it took a more cinematic  approach, which sounded a lot like Rob Dougan’s ‘Clubbed to death’ It suited the 90’s new wave of chilled beats and is hailed as the best mix to date. Florence and the Machine have more or less covered this version highlighting Florence’s vocals. This new remix by Steve Pitron and Max Sanna features great production, a classic ‘hands in the air’ breakdown, and with lyrics and the riff that made this tune so big in the 1st place. It doesn’t break any new ground in dance music, but there is nothing wrong with bringing classic tunes to the fore every now and then, especially good ones. With the recent glut of classic dance tunes being remixed – some good some very bad, this is definitely one of the better remixes. Due for release mid November.

Paolo Nutini - Pencil full of lead
Paolo Nutini, noted for his quirky and likeable songs has done a brave thing, and released a tune that goes against the grain of modern pop, bringing what many would call an ‘old’ sound into modern music. Christina Aguilera did it successfully with 'Candyman' in 2006, bringing the sound of the jiving 50’s into the modern mainstream. Paolo Nutini has not just gone and copied an old style of music, but recreated it, with a classic jazz inspired track complete with mute trumpets almost sounding like something from the late 40’s. When I first heard this, I was expecting someone like Jazz Legend Cab Calloway to start singing, not someone with a strong Scottish accent! Instantly likeable, with modern lyrics, over a classic sound makes this tune stand out from the usual formulaic sound employed by modern pop acts. The video suits the singer’s humour too with a creative twist. Lively and foot tappingly great.

Mr Hudson & Jay Z – Young Forever
Follow up to the widely loved “Supernova”, from earlier in 2009, “Young Forever” is a version of the euro classic ‘Forever young’ from Alphaville from the 80’s brought bang up to date with a rap & R&B edge. It remains faithful to the original until the hip hop beat breaks in - Cue Jay-Z.  This is the kind of tune that will surely appeal to radio listeners as well as bona-fide rap fans. Mr Hudson, who has been mentored by Jay-Z, has a strong voice to carry the song very well. The original’s verses have been omitted to make way for Jay-Z’s lyrics, with Mr Hudson singing the chorus. The tune seems to be following a trend of Rap artists bringing old 80’s and 90’s songs back to life. Nice tune, that will appeal to a broad audience, but be warned - it definitely doesn’t explode into a ‘Supernova’!!

Classic Tune Selection
A while back, myself and a few mates were talking about music. when someone brought up the thorny topic, ‘What was number one when you were born?’ This inspired me to look at songs from the year I was born, and a gem shone in that list – Elton John and Kiki Dee – “Don’t go breaking my heart”. What a song, a party classic, a karaoke classic,  a foot tapping in a bar classic, and one of those songs that demands a chorus whilst driving along in the car. The infectious ‘Ooo hoo!’ vocal, makes it instantly recognisable among young and old, and it’s that character that makes a tune like this timeless. The lyrics are fun, positive, and happy – and lets face it, we could all do with some of that!!!  The music in the song is just so catchy that it’s very easy to listen to the song on repeat!  I’m not ashamed to say it at all, but this one has to be in the list of my all time favourite tunes. It’s a shame that tunes like this aren’t made any more, (not for the video though - nasty!). Overall a fun filled lively tune that never gets old. Check out the video on the link below. Keep on dancing…
